Why do people think these names are so bad?
I have to agree with Karen. People make up their own alternate spellings of certain names because they think it makes the name more unique and special. Names have meanings behind them, and the spelling is connected to that. Christina basically just means "Christian" or "anointed." However, drastically changing the spelling way back in, say, 1500 would have been a heresy--it's like trying to change the deity behind the name. Nowadays, no one's gonna burn you at the stake for having an oddly spelled name; but it's just that: odd. People will always be reserved about that which they consider odd. However, if you like the way your name is spelled, more power to you. But if you eventually name a child, say, Kerolyn instead of Caroline, don't be offended if they eventually want to change it. It's a matter of personal comfort.
